Epoch 26- risk-off week impacts assets

Epoch card

Epoch 26, summary card

Operator desk note

During the week of October 5th to 11th, riskier assets experienced a decline. The SMH semiconductor index dropped nearly 5%, while the DRAM AI memory index fell by about 7%. These downturns were largely triggered by OpenAI's announcement of a $20 billion shortfall between their revenue estimates and actual figures at the end of September.

Cryptocurrencies were not spared from this correction, with Bitcoin losing between 4% to 5% over the week, and even sharper declines observed across various altcoins. This marked a risk-off week, yet sector rotation within the equities market persisted. Notably, there was a rebound in ETFs related to the Finance and Health sectors, as well as the equal-weighted S&P500 ETF. This suggests that sectors typically weaker when high-beta areas like semiconductors and AI attract buying interest are now regaining those flows as these high-beta sectors weaken.

Interest rates did not see a significant increase this week, but they remain high, continuing to be a major concern on Wall Street. These conditions are unfavorable for cryptocurrencies and precious metals, with gold nearing its 2026 lows. A relaxation in interest rates would be necessary to revive interest in precious metals and related sectors like uranium and rare earths, both of which have shown weakness throughout 2026.

With the upcoming midterm elections on November 3rd, market initiatives are limited. However, the Volta portfolio remains opportunistic. Should geopolitical tensions and interest rate pressures ease, it would be strategic to increase positions in precious metals, cryptocurrencies, and speculative sectors such as AI Biotechs. We anticipate a temporary correction rather than a severe downturn in the coming weeks. The upcoming week will be crucial to determine if this temporary correction has concluded, particularly for Bitcoin.

Performance

Net PPS, epoch 26

Over 2026-10-05 → 2026-10-12, net share price printed low 1.007079 and high 1.054592. The largest drawdown from a running intra-week high landed at 4.51%. That is the clearest stress point on the path. Volatility showed up in the band: low to high spanned ~4.53% versus week-open net PPS. Into the last tick, PPS sat meaningfully below week open (≈ -1.80%), a soft weekly finish. Open Performance in the app for the same net PPS basis with full zoom.
